In Hinduism, Mount Kailash is known as the home of Lord Shiva. The mysterious mountain is, however, considered sacred in other religions like Buddhism, Jainism, and by the Bons as well. If you go by science, researchers believe that Mount Kailash is not a natural mountain but a Pyramid made by supernatural humans. The mountain shows peculiar characters when compared with other mountains in the surrounding area and hence, it stands out.

Here are 6 facts that make Mount Kailash special and different from the mountains in the rest of the world:

  • No mountaineer could ever climb Mount Kailash. It is believed that Mount Kailash is unscalable. Any trekker who has ever tried to climb it either died in a snowstorm or returned with stories about experiences of spiritual power on the mountain.
  • Many consider Mount Kailash as the center of the universe. It is believed that axis Mundi, the central axis of the Earth passes through Mount Kailash.
  • Unlike other three-faced mountains, Mount Kailash has four sides. Each of its sides is believed to be made up of precious jewels like ruby, crystal, lapis lazuli and gold.
  • Usually after the sun sets, an "OM" like shadow forms on the mountain.
  • Many people claim that their nails and hair grew incredibly faster during their stay around Mount Kailash. The environment around Mount Kailash apparently accelerates aging.
  • There are two lakes at the base of Mount Kailash, Manssarowar and Rakshastal. While Mansarovar, the calm and freshwater lake is shaped like the sun, Rakshastal is in the shape of a crescent moon and is stormy with salty water.
